Sir Robert Laird Borden was the Prime Minister of Canada during World War I. He served as Prime Minister from Oct. 10, 1911 to July 10, 1920.

Robert Borden was the third Canadian prime minister from Nova Scotia. He started work as a teacher in New Jersey before returning to Canada in 1874 to study law. He became senior partner in his law firm when he was only 35. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1896, made leader of the Conservative Party in 1901 and appointed Prime Minister in 1911. During World War I, he helped transform the Canadian government into a wartime administration via the War Measures Act of 1914.
