What is an IV piggyback?

By Forinfos - 17/12/2025 - 0 comments

An IV piggyback is the process through which medication or extra liquids are applied through intravenous injection. A secondary piggyback package of fluids or medication is attached to the main IV tube through a connector or a branching tube.

An intravenous injection directly injects fluid or medicine into the patient's veins using either a steel needle or a catheter made from plastic. An IV drip is administered for patients who need to maintain a balance between their fluid and electrolyte levels. It is also used to restore fluid levels in patients who suffered from dehydration or lost liquids during a period of illness.
