Where is Ixtapa, Mexico?

Ixtapa lies on the Pacific Ocean side of Mexico. It is in the Zihuatanejo de Azueta municipality within the state of Guerrero. Ixtapa is northwest of Acapulco, southwest of Mexico City and southeast of Puerto Vallarta.

Ixtapa is a planned beach resort developed by the Mexican government in the 1970s. It rests on land that was once a coconut plantation. Ixtapa is located near Zihuatanejo, which started as a fishing village. While located near one another, the two towns are very different in feel and history.

Ixtapa is conveniently located near the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport, allowing travelers to reach this beach destination. Visitors can also reach Ixtapa by bus or car.
