What is the jelly-like substance within a cell called?

The jelly-like substance found within a cell is cytoplasm, sometimes referred to as cytosol. Cytoplasm has several functions, including moving materials around in the cell and dissolving cellular waste.

Clear in color, cytoplasm looks like gel and is mainly made up of water, salts, enzymes and organic molecules. Other than the cell nucleus, the cytoplasm makes up all of the contents within the cell membrane, including the cytosol. In eukaryotic cells, the cytoplasm includes organelles like ribosomes and mitochondria. The cytoskeleton, which is a fiber network that supports the cell and helps to give it its shape, is also located within the cell's cytoplasm.
