A Jewish lightning rod, known as the Mezuzah, is a scroll containing Dueteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21 of the Torah, which must be handwritten on Kosher paper and affixed to doorposts inside a box. These words can also be worn on the person as adornments such as necklaces.

This symbol serves as a reminder of the oneness of God and is a symbol of Jewish identity. Josephus, a first-century Jewish historian and author of Antiquities of the Jews, wrote, "The greatest benefits of God are to be written on the doors... in order that his benevolent providence may be made known everywhere."
