A significant amount of the typical day for a lawyer is spent researching cases. The lawyer tries to find previous court rules that offer precedent for current cases. Research is also performed on legal situations related to current cases. Lawyers draft contracts and documents used by clients in business and individual agreements. In court cases, lawyers present evidence and call witnesses to defend a client in a criminal case or to support a client in a civil case.
