General surgeons perform different surgical procedures every day to save lives. To become a surgeon, a person needs more than 11 years of secondary education. He or she needs to earn a bachelor's degree and a medical degree and work in a residency for up to 8 years. All surgeons go through rigorous training before they can perform surgeries. A surgeon must always stay abreast of the current technology as tools and techniques continually change.
