John Denver's mother was Erma Deutschendorf Davis, born Erma Louise Swope in Oklahoma. She was a receptionist at the University of Colorado and a longtime resident of Denver and Aurora. Deutschendorf Davis died on January 17, 2010 in an Aurora, Colorado nursing home after health complications from an earlier fall.
Deutschendorf Davis was born in 1922, and married John Denver's father in 1942. A decade after her first husband's death, she married her second husband, Raymond Davis. At the time of her death, Deutschendorf Davis had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was 87 years old and known for her lively demeanor.
