John Denver's first wife was Annie Martell, whom he married in 1967. His second wife was Cassandra Delaney, an actress whom he married in 1988, six years after his divorce from Annie Martell.

John Denver met Annie Martell at a college in Minnesota where he was performing with his band. The two were married the following year and later adopted two children, Zachary and Anna Kate. Denver and Martell divorced in 1982.

Denver married his second wife, actress Cassandra Delaney, after a two-year courtship. Denver and Delaney had one daughter, Jesse Bell. The couple separated in 1991 and divorced in 1993.
