Kathy Lee Gifford was born Kathryn Lee Epstein on Aug. 16, 1953, in Paris, France. Her father was a naval officer, and she spent her early childhood in Europe.

In 1957, Gifford's family moved back to the United States and settled in Bowie, Maryland. Early in her career, Gifford performed as a gospel singer and even recorded three albums from 1976 to 1978. She later became better known for co-hosting “Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee,” for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2010. As of 2015, Gifford co-hosts the fourth hour of NBC’s “Today," alongside Hoda Kotb.
