In computer science, KB stands for kilobyte. A kilobyte is equal to 1,024 bytes when referring to data storage. When used to refer to network data rates, 1 kilobyte per second is equal to 1,000 bytes per second.
Kilobytes are typically used to measure files that are primarily text, which takes up less storage space than images or video. A typical email is about 2 kilobytes, and a one-page document is around 20 kilobytes.
The next highest unit of storage is the megabyte, which is equal to 1,024 kilobytes. Megabytes are abbreviated MB. Above megabytes are gigabytes, which are abbreviated GB and contain 1,024 megabytes.
