What is a good raccoon repellent?

One good natural raccoon repellent is based on the repellent properties of hot peppers. The recipe calls for one chopped yellow onion, one chopped jalapeño pepper and 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper boiled in 2 quarts of water for 20 minutes.

Once cooled, the mixture is strained and applied to the desired area with a spray bottle or pesticide sprayer. Though hot pepper repellent is effective, it should be applied every three to five days until the raccoons are gone. Homeowners should avoid leaving garbage out in the open and close off access to fruit and vegetable gardens to further discourage raccoons from entering the premises.
