The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville at Churchill Downs. The race is held on the first Saturday in May each year.
Kentucky and Churchill Downs have a long heritage of horse racing. Churchill Downs has been the premier location for horse races in Kentucky since 1875. Since then, it has earned the name as "Home of the Kentucky Derby."
The racetrack wasn't official named Churchill Downs until 1937. Since then, it has survived many ups and downs in the American economy, including the Great Depression. Because of supporters like Matt Winn, the racetrack remains a staple in America and continues to attract thousands of spectators each year when the race is run in May.
