Kentucky Fried Chicken's Original Recipe is a method of preparing fried chicken created by Harland Sanders. The 11 herbs and spices that make up the recipe remain a closely guarded secret as of 2015.

Sanders, known as Colonel Sanders, perfected the recipe while working as a service station attendant and motel owner in the 1930s and '40s. Sanders said the recipe that includes salt and pepper and other ingredients that "stand on everybody's shelf." He used vegetable oil to fry chicken, but by the 1990s many KFC restaurants had switched to palm and soybean oil. An autographed copy of Sanders' recipe is locked in a vault at KFC's Louisville, Kentucky headquarters.
