What is a kerosene heater?

A kerosene heater is a portable heater one can use in lieu of a power supply or in an effort to decrease home heating costs. These heaters use kerosene as the fuel to power the heat. A wick drenched with kerosene is lit to produce the heat.
Kerosene heaters produce carbon monoxide and other pollutants, therefore it is highly recommended to keep a door or window open while heating the room. Kerosene for the heaters is available at gas stations via a pump or at certified dealers. It is very important not to mix kerosene with gasoline or use gasoline itself as the heaters are not intended to support any other flammable liquid other than kerosene.
