How does a Keurig coffee machine work?

To use a Keurig coffee machine, plug it in, fill the reservoir with water, turn it on, put a K-cup in the chamber and press the brew button once the water is heated. Keurig coffee makers heat water within minutes and brew a fresh cup of coffee with each use.

While there are various models of Keurig coffee makers, they are all operated in generally the same manner. Keurig owners should refer to the operation manual for specific questions.

1. Prepare the Keurig for brewing
Check the water reservoir on the Keurig and, if necessary, add more water to the fill line. Verify that the brewer is plugged into an electrical outlet and press the power button to turn it on. The brewer will begin to heat the water and prepare for brewing.
2. Get the coffee ready
Use the handle on the K-cup chamber to open it. Place a K-cup coffee pod into the chamber. Be aware there is a sharp needle in the chamber so use care when placing the pod. Use the handle to close the chamber.
3. Brew the coffee
Place the coffee mug underneath the chamber. Select the size of cup to be brewed. Some Keurig models have two sizes while others have three or more. Ensure the brew size is compatible with the size of the coffee cup. Once the button has been pressed, the Keurig will brew a single cup of coffee.
