What is Kevlar made out of?

Kevlar is made of paraphenylenediamine and terephthaloyl chloride. This combination creates aramaid threads that are dissolved and then spun into regular fibers, which are woven into fabrics.

Kevlar fabrics are durable and extremely flexible. When the Kevlar is combined with resin, it results in a material that is light and 20 times stronger than steel and other unique alloys created by specialists. There are three common types of Kevlar: Kevlar, Kevlar 29 and Kevlar 49. They have varying applications, such as reinforcing tires, armoring military vehicles and personnel, and creating fireproof fabrics for fire fighters. The complex process of producing Kevlar makes it an expensive material.
