What kind of brakes do RVs use?

The type of brake, either air or hydraulic, that an RV needs depends on its size and weight. Sometimes, a supplemental braking system is necessary when towing a vehicle behind the RV.
A classification of driver's license other than the standard license used for driving a car may be required when driving an RV. A CDL is required for anything over 26,001 pounds GVW and for any vehicle that carries more than 15 passengers unless it is for private, non-commercial use. However, as of 2015, there are a few states that have driver's licensing requirements and endorsements for RVs. Additionally, if the RV has air brakes, a commercial drivers license may be required.
