The logo for the RCA-Victor Company featured Nipper, an 11-year-old male fox terrier from Bristol, England. It wasn't until after the dog's death that he became famous through a painting that his owner had created of him.
The painting of the dog listening to a gramophone was originally patented and offered for sale to the Edison-Bell Company. It declined the marketing suggestion.
RCA-Victor is one of several companies to use the painting, entitled "His Master's Voice," for marketing purposes. Other companies to use the logo include JVC and EMI Music. The acronym HMV, which represents His Master's Voice, is a music business trademark.
