What kind of food did the Kwakiutl tribe eat?

The Kwakiutl tribe ate fish, sea mammals, and an assortment of berries and nuts. The Kwakiutl women gathered plants, herbs and clams, and the men of the tribe hunted and fished, using harpoons, nets and fish traps.

The Kwakiutl tribe was based in the Pacific Northwest. Because of the tribe's proximity to the Pacific Ocean, its culture largely revolved around fishing, hunting marine animals and paddling canoes to nearby trading villages. The Kwakiutl tribe is mostly known for its use of totem poles, which were family identification symbols. As of 2015, the largest Kwakiutl totem poll still standing is 173 feet high.
