What kind of government does Egypt have today?

The current Egyptian government is a republic, divided into the executive, legislative and judicial branches. The country's official name is the Arab Republic of Egypt, known to the locals as Jumhuriyat Misr al-Arabiyah.

In May 2014, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi won the presidential election and became the chief of state in June, 2014. Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehlab serves as the country's current head of government. Egypt adopted a new constitution in January 2014, which mandated the dissolution of the bicameral legislature and establishment of a unicameral House of Representatives. The highest courts in the country include the Court of Cassation, Supreme Constitutional Court and Supreme Administrative Court.
