What kind of pet is a serval?

A serval is a type of wild cat from Africa. Although they're relatively small size makes them look like a more exotic version of the domestic cat, servals tend to be aggressive and destructive so do not make good pets.

Servals typically weigh less than 40 pounds and are spotted, with large ears and a short tail. They are solitary animals and tend to be antisocial as adults. According to the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, servals do not adjust well to changes, such as relocation or the addition of new family members, and are difficult to train to use the litter box. Owning a serval is illegal in many places and requires a special permit in others.
