Amelia Earhart flew a Lockheed Electra 10-E on her ill-fated trip around the world when her twin-engine plane disappeared in the Pacific in 1937. Today, there is only a single genuine Lockhead Electra in existence.
The Electra was a 10-passenger airliner that was also popular as a high-performance private aircraft. Earhart purchased her model 10-E Electra in 1936 and named the aircraft the "Flying Laboratory" due to the amount of new and untested equipment that was on board. Authorities declared both Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, lost at sea on July 18, 1937, and her plane was never found.
