What kind of tree has white bark?

Several commonly planted trees have white bark, including varieties of birch, sycamore and poplar. Among these trees, however, the look of the bark and trunk and their particular shade of white can differ greatly. Thus, an inspection of both, as well as the trees' leaves, can help with identification.
In particular, paper birch trees have whitish bark, while the Heritage variety of the river birch peels to reveal a white or salmon-white trunk. Among sycamore trees, the American sycamore and London planetree have creamy-colored and olive-colored bark, respectively. White poplars, also known as sliver poplars, are known for their cream-colored bark.
