What kinds of dogs are born without tails?

Some of the breeds of dogs that have either short or no tails at all include French bulldogs, English bulldogs, French pointers, Australian shepherds and Welsh corgis. Dogs and their ancestors naturally have tails. However, over generations, humans have bred certain types of dogs to have virtually no visible tail.
The length of a dog's tail depends on genetics. Bulldogs typically have a tail that is 1 inch long or shorter, while Australian shepherds have tails that are 4 inches long or shorter. Breeding dogs so that their offspring have short tails or no tails is done primarily for aesthetic purposes.
