What do kittens eat?

Kittens feed strictly off the mother cat for the first few weeks of life. Bottle-feeding using a milk replacement must be used if the kitten has been separated from the mother, has been rejected, or if the mother cannot produce enough milk.

A kitten can begin to eat moist food at around 3 to 4 weeks old. It is recommended feeding kittens a gruel at this age made from milk replacement and good-quality dry or canned kitten food. Kittens are able to eat dry food at roughly 6 to 7 weeks old. Kittens typically eat two to three times more than adult cats.
