The koi dragon is a mythological creature from ancient Chinese legend. It represents determination, perseverance and strength, and the koi dragon can also represent destiny fulfilled.
One legend tells of koi swimming up China's Yellow River. When they reached the end of the river, they found a waterfall. Most turned back, unwilling to try to reach the top. Only the most determined koi remained, jumping again and again, trying to get to the top. After 100 years of jumping, one koi finally reached the top.The gods were pleased at the fish's unwillingness to give up, so they turned him into a dragon.
Both koi fish and koi dragons are often used as tattoos.
