What is the Kuiper Belt made out of?

The Kuiper Belt, named for Gerard Kuiper, consists of icy objects, dwarf planets and comets. NASA estimates that a trillion or more comets reside in the Kuiper Belt, and it is home to the dwarf planets Pluto and Eris.
The Kuiper Belt is a ring-shaped region of space that extends just beyond Neptune, which is the eighth and last planet from the sun. In addition to Pluto, this region is home to hundreds of other dwarf planets, some of which have small moons. There are possibly hundreds of thousands of icy objects that are larger than 62 miles wide in the Kuiper Belt.
