Where is Lake Texcoco on a map?

On a map, Lake Texcoco is located in Mexico about 2.25 miles east of the capital, Mexico City. The lake once occupied a large area in the Valley of Mexico, but after the Spaniards took control over the area, the lake was slowly drained to provide water for residents.

In the days of the Aztecs, the area around Mexico City was surrounded by five enormous lakes, one of which was Lake Texcoco. The only thing that remains of the lake is a small area of water with salt marshes on its boundaries. The other lakes have also been drained in the five centuries since the Spaniards moved into the valley.
