Lakeland is dominated by numerous lakes. There are 38 named lakes in the city and several other nameless bodies of water. The majority of these unnamed waters are old phosphate mines that filled with water over time. The largest lake is Lake Parker with an impressive size of 2,550 acres. Lakeland has a humid subtropical climate, much like the rest of northern Florida above Lake Okeechobee.
