The largest fruit ever recorded was a 2,009-pound pumpkin that was grown in Rhode Island in 2012. The pumpkin grower, Ron Wallace, is the first grower to break the 1-ton mark. This pumpkin won first prize at the Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts, earning the grower a $5,500 first prize.
Wallace was also the first person to grow a pumpkin that surpassed the 1,500-pound mark. Some other impressively large fruits on record are a 41-pound cantaloupe that was grown in Hope, Ark., a 268.9-pound watermelon that was also grown in Hope, Ark. and a 610-square-foot tomato plant, located at the Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla., that yielded 32,000 cherry tomatoes in 2006.
