The largest animal is the blue whale, Balaenoptera musculus, which grows to a maximum of 110 feet long. The smallest animal is the crustacean Stygotantulus stocki, which grows to 94 micrometers, or less than 0.004 inches.
Other massive animals in the world include the African bush elephant at 35 feet long from trunk to rump, which makes it the largest land animal. Nearly all of the world's largest animals are varying species of cetacean whales or elephant subspecies, including the North Pacific right whale and the Asian elephant. Some of the smallest animals in the world include Eriophyid mites, Nanosellini beetles and the starfish Patiriella parvivipara.
