What is the largest state in the United States?

Alaska is the largest and northernmost of the 50 states. With more than 570,000 square miles of land, it is more than twice the size of Texas, the second-largest state in geographical size.

Throughout the expansive land are more than 3 million lakes, 12,000 rivers and thousands of creeks and streams. The central region of Alaska is home to Mount McKinley, the highest peak in the United States at more than 20,000 feet above sea level. The petroleum industry is by far the state's largest, supplying up to 110,000 jobs. Oil and natural gas generate nearly 90 percent of the state's total revenue.
