Latin America consists of the southern portion of North America, all of South America and the Caribbean islands. Spanish or Portuguese is the primary language in most Latin countries.
Latin America begins with Mexico in the north and stretches to the southern tip of South America. The name comes from the predominance of Latin-based Romance languages in the region. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru are some of the larger countries in the region. Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are among the Caribbean islands. Portuguese is spoken predominant only in Brazil, the largest nation in the region.
