What is the latitude of the Arctic Circle?

The latitude of the Arctic Circle is 66 degrees, 32 minutes. This is the latitude above which the sun never sets during the summer and never rises during the winter. North of this imaginary line, six months of daylight follow six months of night each year.

Latitude lines are imaginary horizontal lines running north and south of the equator. The equator is 0 degrees latitude, and there are 90 degrees of latitude both north and south of the equator. Within the Arctic Circle lies the Arctic Ocean and parts of eight different countries, including Norway, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Iceland, Denmark, the United States and Russia.
