Some towns have laws against parking in front of mailboxes, according to the Bellingham Herald. There is no federal law against parking in front of a mailbox, but postal carriers do not have to deliver mail to a blocked mailbox, according to the USPS.
Owners of vehicles parked within 10 feet of mailboxes in Kent, Washington, are subject to fines, according to the town code. Parking within 10 feet of a mailbox is also illegal in Bellingham, Washington and illegal within 20 feet in Blaine, Washington, according to the Bellingham Herald. Local laws often allow exceptions for days or times when mail is not delivered.
