What are laws passed by legislature called?

Bills that have been passed by the United States legislature to become laws are called "acts." Acts are bills that have been passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Once they are finalized and signed by both the Speaker of the House and the Vice President, they are sent on to the President for consideration and final approval.

The process of turning a bill into a law is not a fast process on average. It can take many months, sometimes years for a bill to pass through all of the processes. It takes a simple majority for the bill to be passed in the Senate, but it takes two-thirds of the vote to carry it out of the House and onto the Senate.
