To get a driving job, a convicted felon first needs to have a commercial driver's license, or CDL. Some companies have specific requirements that serve as barriers to employment for felons. For example, if the felon is on probation and cannot leave the city or state, a company making deliveries outside the city or state could not hire the felon as a driver. Some carriers also require drivers with HazMat endorsements, which, according to Business and Legal Resources, not all felons can get.
