How long does a driving conviction stay on a license?

Every state has its own laws regarding how long a driving conviction stays on a license. Most states have time-frame increments of three, five, seven or 10 years.
If the conviction was for a minor violation, it may stay on a license record for less time than a serious offense. A DUI is a major offense, and most states typically keep that conviction on a license record for a longer period of time. In some states, a DUI can remain on a record permanently. A person does not have to be a licensed driver to have a driving record, especially if he has a history of driving without a license.
