High school students in Florida can legally drop out when they turn 16. About 2 percent of Florida high school students decide to drop out before graduating. Florida is one of about 30 states that lets students under the age of 18 to drop out.
To increase the number of students who graduate from high school, Florida legislators have considered raising the age to legally drop out of school from 16 to 18 years old. Florida also requires drivers under the age of 18 to be in school or lose the right to drive, even if they have a learner's permit or driver's license.
