Why are lemurs endangered?

Lemurs are endangered because of the destruction of their habitat in the tropical forest. Another cause is accelerated logging caused by increased poverty as a result of political turmoil in the regions where the lemur lives. Hunting also poses a risk to the lemur population.

Of the 103 known species of lemur, 91 percent are threatened. This led to the Madagascar lemur being dubbed the closest to being on the brink of extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Species Survival Commission. A total of 23 species are critically endangered as of 2015, Fifty two are endangered and 19 are listed as vulnerable. Lemurs are the most endangered of any group of vertebrates.
