Medicare does not have a lifetime limit on benefits, according to the Eldercare Team. Medicare has benefit periods for hospital benefits that renew after a person goes more than 60 days without a hospital visit.

There is no lifetime limit to the number of benefit periods that a person with Medicare can have for care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility, notes the Eldercare Team. The patient must pay a Part A deductible for each benefit period. Benefit periods start if a person does not seek care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility for at least 60 days or more.
