The maximum monthly Supplemental Security Income benefit as of April 2015 is $733 for individuals and $1,100 for couples. Blind or disabled students can earn up to $1,780 per month or a maximum of $7,180 for the year before experiencing a reduction in SSI benefits.
The SSI resources limit is $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple. Recipients who have more than this limit available in cash, land or personal property are ineligible for SSI benefits. The value of a recipient's home and household goods are not counted against the resources limit. A recipient's vehicle also is excluded from the resources limit as long as the individual owns only one vehicle.
