What is a lint-free cloth?

A lint-free cloth is a cloth on which lint does not appear. Lint is the word used to describe the short fibers found in some fabrics. With normal wear and tear, these fibers loosen and come to the surface. Lint is found in materials such as wool, cotton and linen.
A lint-free cloth is often recommended for cleaning glass and wood or for polishing items. Some examples of lint-free cloths are cheesecloth, which is loosely woven cotton, and brushed cotton. Lint-free nylon gloves are used for food preparation, in order to avoid any fibers coming into contact with food. Gauze is another loosely woven cloth, which is used to cover wounds because it is lint-free.
