Loading and unloading cargo is a job requirement for truck drivers, states Learn.org. This activity constitutes 10 percent of a truck driver’s job, according to Southern Mail Service.

Truck drivers must meet a heavy lifting requirement to perform this task. They must be able to lift a maximum of 100 pounds and/or carry objects that weigh up to 60 pounds.

The only time a driver is not required to load a truck is in the case of a “Shipper Load and Count” shipment, according to the North American Transportation Association. This is when the shipper loads the trailer, secures the freight and applies a seal to the trailer door. The driver is not present during the loading of this type of shipment.
