The Christmas Ridge underwater mountain is located on the southwestern side of Tampa Bay in the Pacific Ocean. It is around 120 miles offshore.
Christmas Ridge is located in a highly concentrated area of Pacific seamounts. Many of these seamounts are still active volcanoes. The mountain is near to Kiribati Island, which has a latitude of 2 degrees north and 157 degrees 20 minutes west.
The name Christmas Ridge is believed to be given by fishermen. They named the underwater mountain because of the great amount of fish that they could catch there. This gave them a lot of money right before Christmas or the year-end holidays.
