What is the location of Iran?

The absolute location of Iran is at the latitude of 32 degrees North and longitude of 53 degrees East. Formerly known as Persia, the country is situated in the Middle East in the western region of Asia, with seven of its neighboring countries including Iraq, Armenia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Iran is the 18th largest country in the world with a total land area of around 591,352 square miles. It is surrounded by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the south and the Caspian Sea to the north. The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz provide important sea routes for transporting crude oil, one of Iran's major exports.
