How long is the ACT?

In terms of time, the ACT takes four hours and 15 minutes. There are four sections to the test. The English section takes 45 minutes, the mathematics section takes 60 minutes, the reading section takes 35 minutes, and the science section takes 35 minutes. There are 215 questions total.

Under normal circumstances, the ACT begins at 8:00 a.m. local time, and any student who arrives late is not admitted to the test-taking room. Dismissal for the ACT is around 12:15 p.m., following completion of the four sections and a planned break. There is also an optional writing portion of the ACT, which takes an additional 30 minutes.
