How long is the SAT?

The maximum time allowed to complete the SAT is 3 hours and 45 minutes. The test is made up of 10 sections with each section being timed separately. There are eight sections are based on mathematics, critical reading and writing.
The SAT measures literacy and writing skills that are needed for academic success and is required for freshman entry into many universities in the United States. Possible scores on the SAT range from 600-2,400.
In 2016, the SAT will use a 1,600 point scoring scale and the maximum time limit will be changed to 3 hours. An additional 50 minutes will be provided for completion of an optional essay.
