A Doctor of Chiropractic degree requires four years of full-time study. To become eligible for this professional degree program, one must first complete all undergraduate prerequisites, which typically require a minimum of three years to finish. Prerequisites include courses in chemistry, biology, physics and other science and liberal arts subjects.

All chiropractors in the United States require a state license to practice. State licensure requires a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a program accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education. As of March 2014, accreditation has been granted to doctoral programs at 15 colleges and universities across the United States.
